Hailing from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Joe became enamored with jazz at an early age when his dad turned him on to guys named Brubeck, Bostic, Basie, Getz, and Shaw. The love of jazz music proved to be a bond they shared throughout their relationship. As a kid, Joe studied piano, double bass and tuba, and joined his first band (outside of the school jazz band) when he was 13 years old. After a musical hiatus during college and graduate school, he returned to his roots, unpacked his bass and amp, and resumed his journey. Over the years, his strong connection with his instrument, working knowledge of music theory, and strong sense of tone and time, coupled with his love of music and  ability to work well with others, has made him one of Houston’s most sought after purveyors of the low end groove for both studio and live performance work.

Over his career, Joe developed stylistic flexibility and communication skills allowing him to thrive across genre divides including jazz, funk, rock, blues, and country. He has  performed  with a multitude of great artists at some of Texas  top venues including The House of Blues, Galveston Pleasure Pier, Kemah Boardwalk,  the Continental Club, Fitzgerald’s, Dan Electros as well as festival events including the Galveston Mardi Gras, Alvin Music Festival, International Blues Festival, Heights White Linen Festival, and the Houston Superbowl Festival, (as well as a plethora of  those named for  most every crop and creature in Texas)
